The authoritative books for Rasche Notation
The unique and complete system for notating Tango! |
Argentine Tango Class Companion Tango is more than a dance... |
Have you ever tried to write down Argentine Tango steps? Would you also like to write the dance phrasing? Rasche Notation is a simple but sophisticated dance notation system for Argentine Tango. It enables you to write your steps, your partner's steps and these to the music. You can write it on paper or computer, without specialist software. In the pocketbook, you can discover how to write the dance phrasing too! The new pocketbook is the perfect introduction to Rasche Notation. It teaches you to write down your steps (suitable for all levels of ability). It is compact and complete. It includes a full explanation of Rasche Notation 2 (a revised and improved version of the notation, that's easier to learn and use), with examples. It also includes blank staves, and summaries in Español (Spanish) and Deutsch (German). The Rasche Notation book is the original published version of Rasche Notation. It includes the original notation in more detail, as well as the background information. It suits anyone looking for a thorough understanding of the notation. These books are the official and authoritative guides, for less than the price of a private dance class ! Rasche Notation features: - A comprehensive notation system designed for Tango, - How to summarise music into phrases: Compás line, - How to summarise dance into phrases: Description line, - How to describe steps: the Man and Woman dance lines, - Reduce information clutter by using generalisations, - Familiar symbols which are easy to learn and use. Each of these books describes Rasche Notation, with explanatory text, diagrams and examples. They are essential books for all dance teachers, choreographers as well as all students of Argentine Tango, wishing to write down their steps. You can also find out more information about this notation at the Rasche Notation page (this is the homepage of www.RascheNotation.com), which also has links to the Notation E-group and more. Reviews of the book 'Rasche Notation' (See also the reviews of Rasche Notation) "Thomas has produced a true shorthand that is very neat, clean and powerful for noting Argentine Tango steps. For anyone who's ever forgotten a move they loved in class, here is the answer!" Richard A. February 2009, UK. "...Thomas Rasche has devised an astonishingly comprehensive and concise system, using easily understandable signs and reducing information down to the absolutely necessary ... Beside the advantage of acquiring a tool, people who will use his system will be challenged to gain insight into the precise nature of a movement that encompasses both the leader and the follower. The system also has inbuilt space for one's own improvements and additions..." Ruth Zimmermann, March 2009 (read the full review) (Tango Oblivion, Totnes, Devon, UK. Ruth is the organiser of the very popular Tango Mangos). Reviews of the book 'Argentine Tango - Class Companion' "...This book contains correct, precise and synthesised information which the author considers of primary importance when sharing his knowledge of this subject with the reader; it is a collection of the lessons and teachings from diverse teachers on his tango journey and his own investigations. As didactic reading it can help a great deal with understanding, including the mechanics of the dance of the tango, as well as sparking the interest of the people who read it, without any previous knowledge of the dance. ..." Damián Esell (www.damianynancy.com) "Hi everybody, I can happily recommend Thomas's new book on Tango - very informative and with some very nice little drawings by Thomas of buildings and landscape. There are some complex thoughts about dancing Tango that you will want to read more than once!" Peter, 17th July 2007 "The book is wonderful congratulations... I loved the history of the tango and your beginnings, the people you met in your tango journey. It was alive and human and I was able to visualise the scenes in Berlin and Buenos Aires and the real tangueros who took you under their wings. The dance steps made sense, reading the book: it made me really want to learn the dance. Now I know why you and other people become hooked on tango. I found that your book is more than an accompaniment to dance lessons, it is a love affair with tango." Sharon, 19th July 2007 "Thomas Rasche's guide to Argentine Tango gives a descriptive account of what this dance is. The dance is intricate and the Author touches upon many of its details. He looks at its subtleties, the embrace, the energetics of its movement, the mechanics of the dance and the male and female role. I love the description of this dance as being a communication, a language... "similiar to conversation, there is a motion or comment, followed by a response, which in turn creates a comment and a response." He tells of its emergence in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the end of the 19th Century at a time of mass immigration where the population was predominatly male and "there was a need for men to hold women, if only briefly". He describes the dance as part of this development and a reflection of it. Thomas also shares his knowledge of musicality, dance styles, step combinations... An informative accompaniment to one's Tango journey." Vicki, 01st March 2008. This review appears in the e-zine Smooth Moves. Return to top. |
